About the role
Position Summary
The First Electronics Corporation (FEC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Outside Salesperson to drive revenue growth and market expansion in the maritime and subsea industries. This position identifies new business opportunities, builds strategic customer relationships, and closes sales for high-performance interconnect solutions and engineered components. Success means exceeding sales targets, expanding key accounts, introducing new products, and strengthening FEC's position with shipbuilders, OEMs, system integrators, and marine contractors.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, Marine Engineering, or related field preferred
- Equivalent technical sales experience and market knowledge may substitute for a degree
Experience
- 5+ years of outside sales experience in technical or engineered products, preferably interconnect systems, cable assemblies, or marine/subsea equipment
- Success in territory development, customer acquisition, and account management
- Experience selling to maritime, subsea, naval, oil and gas, or heavy industrial markets
- Understanding of procurement cycles and complex sales environments
Knowledge
- Interconnect, connector, and cable assembly products and applications
- Maritime standards, subsea equipment requirements, and operating environments
- IMCA, DNV, ABS, and ISO standards as applicable
- CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and sales analytics tools
Skills
- Communication and presentation skills for technical, operational, and executive audiences
- Negotiation, relationship management, and consultative selling
- Ability to learn technical specifications and translate customer needs into solutions
- Self-management and target-driven territory independence
Travel Requirements
Willingness to travel extensively, 30–40%, to visit customers, trade shows, and industry events.
Job Responsibilities
Territory & Account Management
- Develop and execute territory sales strategy for assigned regions or market segments
- Own sales targets, revenue goals, and activity metrics
- Build and maintain relationships with customer decision-makers and influencers
- Identify, qualify, and close opportunities with shipbuilders, subsea contractors, system integrators, and OEMs
- Expand existing accounts and identify cross-selling opportunities
- Manage the full sales cycle through contract closure and order fulfillment
Business Development & Market Intelligence
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis
- Generate leads through industry contacts, trade shows, and online research
- Monitor maritime and subsea developments, regulatory changes, and customer priorities
- Represent FEC at conferences, trade shows, and networking events
- Evaluate strategic partners, integrators, and channel opportunities
- Provide customer feedback for product development and marketing strategy
Technical Sales & Collaboration
- Partner with engineering and operations teams on customized solutions
- Support bids and proposals with specifications, application guidance, and pricing recommendations
- Communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences
- Translate customer requirements into feasible technical solutions
- Support pre-sale and post-sale technical discussions
Administrative & Reporting
- Maintain CRM records and track pipeline, forecasts, and customer interactions
- Provide monthly sales reports on pipeline activity, revenue, and quota achievement
- Prepare expense reports, travel plans, and required documentation
Other responsibilities, initiatives, and ad-hoc projects as assigned.
Physical Requirements
The employee must travel extensively to customer sites, maritime facilities, trade shows, and industry events, navigate industrial environments, and may work on or near marine vessels. The position may require occasional international travel. The work environment may have moderate to high noise levels during facility visits.
