About the role
Meet the Team:
The Test Engineer supports testing autonomous vehicles, software development, automation, CI/CD pipelines, vehicle test plans, test data analysis, strategic test progression, and full-lifecycle development of proprietary software solutions. This position improves the robustness and safety of self-driving technology and works closely with product, design, and engineering teams.
What You'll Do:
Vehicle Software Testing:
- Generate and execute test plans, collect relevant data, and drive system improvements.
- Perform root cause analysis of defects and performance issues and provide recommended solutions.
- Design and deploy instrumentation and infrastructure required to capture test-plan data.
- Analyze test data and generate performance reports.
- Maintain verification and validation reports for vehicle-level systems against system requirements.
- Work with software component teams to generate performance metrics and implement vehicle-level tests.
- Consolidate test event results and generate detailed defect reports with supporting logs.
- Perform on-road testing in autonomous vehicles as a detailed observer/annotator.
- Travel domestically or internationally to support on-road vehicle testing, up to 25%.
Software Engineering:
- Execute software development lifecycle activities using C++ and scripting languages in a Linux development environment with Lean-Agile methodologies.
- Complete software assignments including design, implementation, unit testing, vehicle testing, and deployed software maintenance.
- Assist in root cause analysis of issues found in testing and process automation.
- Support daily assignments and report progress at daily stand-ups.
- Support software and system-level test plans and verification strategies for feature development and bug fixes.
- Design and implement systems for data acquisition and analysis from remote vehicles.
- Ensure software updates do not regress performance by using simulation software and scenarios.

What You'll Need to Succeed:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or another relevant technical field with 6+ years of technically relevant work experience, OR
- Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or another relevant technical field with 3+ years of technically relevant work experience, OR
- Doctorate degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or another relevant technical field with 1+ years of technically relevant work experience.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working-level experience in transportation, engineering, safety, or related technology.
- Experience testing and verifying systems composed of hardware and software components.
- Software development knowledge in Linux environments including Ubuntu and CentOS.
- Knowledge of Modern C++, Python, Bash, and REST APIs.
- Troubleshooting skills applied to complex robotic systems across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
- Knowledge of version control systems including Git.
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD delivery concepts and tools including Jenkins.
- Knowledge of automation and configuration management principles.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies including Kanban and Scrum.
- Ability to monitor software, read, analyze, and type in a moving vehicle for extended periods.
- Analytical, problem-solving, critical-thinking, focus, composure, and judgment skills in dynamic environments.
- Ability to contribute to engineering discussions and provide input, feedback, and guidance.
- Ability to work independently and without distraction throughout the shift.
- Ability to complete complex projects spanning multiple disciplines and teams.
