Using discretion and independent judgment, the Store Assistant Manager will establish and implement short- and long-range objectives for the assigned location, oversee related functions and activities, and administer company policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Monitors departmental performance, identifying and facilitating opportunities to increase sales, productivity, and efficiency.
- Manages daily aspects of the department and its staff to ensure projects are completed and goals and customer needs are met.
- Collaborates with the Store Manager to plan and coordinate programs and projects.
- Collaborates with Store Managers to analyze costs, benefits, and losses of company profits.
- Drafts, submits, and presents various performance and management reports.
- Manages customer and employee conflict and resolves complaints about or within the department.
- Assists the Store Manager with daily and monthly inventory.
- Assists the Store Manager in monitoring the service and delivery of products to all customers served by the location.
- Prepares weekly sales and inventory reports and assists the Store Manager in overseeing administrative duties at the location.
- Represents the organization with referral sources, customers, potential clients, partnering companies, and vendors.
- Communicates as needed with Outside Sales and the Parent Administrative team concerning new developments and customer- or employee-related issues.
- Participates in interviewing, hiring, training, and firing employees.
- Coaches, teaches, implements, inspects, and upholds a safe culture and work environment at the location.
- Occasionally opens and closes the facility at least 30 minutes before or after normal business hours.
- Communicates with members of other nodes to support customer service and experience.
- Maintains storefronts, displays, and inside working areas to ensure workspaces are clean and accessible.

Supervisory Responsibility
At the discretion of the Store Manager, this position coordinates and oversees the day-to-day workflow of subordinate staff within the store and assists with hiring, performance coaching, and disciplinary action of location staff.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional retail environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, digital filing systems, and payment processing machines. The employee will be expected to work outside in all weather conditions and around machinery producing loud noises and exhaust. The position requires handling and operating heavy equipment, which may introduce risks of slips, trips, and falls. Personal protective gear is provided by the employer.
Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to talk, hear, lift, push, pull, stoop, and bend. The employee frequently walks, uses hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reaches with hands and arms. The position requires good manual dexterity and coordination and occasionally lifting products and office supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours can change at the discretion of the Store Manager. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Saturday work required as duties demand, typically during harvesting season from March through November.
Travel
This position requires little to no travel time.
Required Education and Experience
- One year of supervisory experience.
- Associate degree in Business or equivalent similar experience.
- Face-to-face or counter sales experience.
- Sales and customer service experience.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Pre-employment background check and drug screening required.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Two or more years of experience with turfgrass sod and seed in a retail setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication, or Business Management.
- Additional education in turf management, horticulture, or a similar field of study.
- Bilingual English and Spanish skills are a plus.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Must be 19 years of age or older.
- Pre-employment background, motor vehicle check, and drug screen required.
- Must be eligible to drive a company vehicle according to Super-Sod insurance guidelines.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- No major safety or moving violations reported on a motor vehicle record within the past three years.
- Major violations include felony convictions, automobile insurance cancellation or nonrenewal due to excessive tickets, accidents, points, or fraud; alcohol- or drug-related driving offenses; three or more speeding or serious moving violations; and two or more chargeable accidents.
