Overview of Role:
The Director of Market Access Payer Account reports to the Executive Director, Payer Strategic Accounts, and is responsible for leading and managing select national and sub-national payers and other assigned accounts. This customer-facing role supports broad access, reimbursement, and patient affordability across national and regional health plans, PBMs, Medicare, state Medicaid, and VA/DoD accounts.
The Director will build and maintain relationships with decision makers in medical and pharmacy departments, execute account strategies and tactics, and support regional field matrix teams. A strong understanding of managed markets, reimbursement, and payer account management is essential.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Establish, broaden, and deepen relationships with health insurers, PBMs, other payers, and key decision makers.
- Influence decision makers, policies, guidelines, and contracts to facilitate coverage, access, and reimbursement.
- Implement brand access strategies, develop account-specific plans, and resolve access and reimbursement issues.
- Work with Medical Affairs to support communication with payers regarding drug candidates and approved products.
- Work with Patient Services to support the patient journey and resolve coverage issues.
- Assist Regional Sales teams with pull-through or sell-through strategies based on payer coverage.
- Maintain relationships with Formulary, P&T, Pathway, Medical Director, Pharmacy Director, and other population-based stakeholders.
- Co-create account-level strategies, tools, and tactics covering product value propositions, pricing and contracting, HEOR evidence generation, patient support programs, payer marketing, and account management.
- Lead discussions with internal and external partners to align on access, coverage, and reimbursement strategies.
- Foster accountability, urgency, ethical behavior, and professional development within the field team.
- Monitor healthcare trends, payer policies, reimbursement processes, and competitive activity.
- Ensure Market Access initiatives comply with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
- Balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of biotech or pharmaceutical experience.
- Minimum of 5+ years of focused account management experience in the oncology access marketplace.
- Demonstrated success engaging with US payers, MACs, PBMs, and IDNs.
- Strong understanding of the US healthcare payer and access landscape and regulatory environment.
- Strategic thinking, leadership, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to work on cross-functional teams and drive complex projects to completion.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Record of achieving and maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory, legal, and operational rules.
- Ability to travel as needed to support business priorities.
