About the role
At Scout Motors, you don't just design vehicles—you shape the future of the road. The Engineering team is where bold ideas meet rigorous execution, building machines that are durable and capable. You'll work across disciplines to turn complex challenges into scalable solutions meeting high standards of safety, performance, and user experience.
What you'll do
- Own vehicle-level electrical and software integration, testing, execution, and release readiness across complete vehicle programs.
- Ensure electrical and software systems deliver intended vehicle-level functional performance.
- Validate vehicle behavior under real-world conditions, including transient events, edge cases, environmental stress, and feature concurrency.
- Work with software, systems engineers, validation teams, and suppliers to ensure robust delivery.
- Integrate domain controllers and distributed ECUs into the vehicle E/E architecture.
- Own software integration and validation according to vehicle software maturity, performance, and release gates, and approve vehicle integration builds per milestones.
- Ensure alignment to OEM-defined zonal or domain-based architectures.
- Validate network topology, gateway routing strategies, signal database integrity, bandwidth utilization, and bus loading.
- Validate and manage vehicle communication across CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, and FlexRay networks.
- Validate and release bootloader compatibility, flashing and partitioning strategies, AUTOSAR Classic/Adaptive, and memory and CPU utilization budgets.
- Coordinate integration across powertrain and electrification, body and comfort, ADAS/AD compute, infotainment and connectivity, and central compute/zonal controllers.
- Validate system behavior against system requirements under nominal, boundary, fault injection, high bus load, low voltage, and cold crank conditions.
- Own vehicle-level regression test planning, perform root cause analysis of cross-domain issues, and support integration war-room activities during DV/PV builds.
- Release and validate functional KPIs including defect leakage rate, integration maturity index, build stability, bus load margins, and software flash success rate.
- Validate wake-up and sleep strategies across ECUs, power state transitions, OTA updates, and parasitic drain behavior.
- Validate UDS/DoIP response timing, diagnostic sessions, DTC accuracy, freeze frame integrity, and robustness.
Location & Travel Expectations
- This role may be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.
- This role requires 4–5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.
- The role requires the ability to meet with Scout colleagues in person and travel to company events from time to time.
What you'll bring
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field with 4+ years of experience.
- Strong understanding of vehicle E/E architecture, ECU-level software stacks, automotive communication protocols, UDS diagnostics, and diagnostic communication tools.
- Expert knowledge of Jira, GitHub/GitLab, Jenkins, Artifactory, and ALM/PLM; proficiency in Siemens Polarion, IBM DOORS Next Gen, or PTC Windchill.
- Strong understanding, development, and verification of plant and control models in MATLAB/Simulink for hardware-in-the-loop test environments, dSPACE ControlDesk, and AutomationDesk.
- Strong understanding of engineering first principles and a results-oriented approach.
- Familiarity with embedded systems software, EE systems, and architecture.
- Familiarity with A2B, CAN, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, LVDS, and vehicle network tools such as CANalyzer and CANoe.
- Expertise in complex problem solving, data analysis, and working with extended teams.
- Knowledge of automotive design and development processes, system requirements, and engineering best practices.
What you'll gain
Scout offers the opportunity to build products and a company from the ground up, with competitive compensation and benefits supporting physical, mental, and financial wellbeing.
- Competitive insurance, including medical, dental, vision, and income protection plans.
- 401(k) program with employer match and immediate vesting.
- Generous paid time off, including planned and unplanned PTO, company or floating holidays, paid parental leave, and paid leave for bereavement, jury duty, voting time, or military leave.
