About the role

Who we are:

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. Samsara helps improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of physical operations across agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing.

Working at Samsara means helping define the future of physical operations and shaping product solutions including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring.

About the role:

At Samsara, interns can work on high-impact engineering challenges across the connected operations platform. Depending on the team, an intern may help build backend infrastructure for the IoT platform, scale data ingestion and storage systems, work across the full stack to create user experiences, or partner with product and design to iterate on features.

On the mobile side, an intern could help strengthen infrastructure behind the React Native app. Embedded software projects may include software running directly on Samsara hardware, including edge AI, multimedia frameworks, power management, and real-time data processing.

Throughout the interview process, Samsara will assess past experience, areas of interest, and fit across engineering teams.

Engineering teams use Golang for backend development, TypeScript and React for the web client, GraphQL for data access, and React Native for mobile development. Direct experience with this exact stack is not required, but experience with similar technologies is strongly encouraged.

You should apply if…:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world. The software you build will help keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and ensure workers return home safely.
  • You want to build for scale. You'll work on technology that powers physical operations at a scale most engineers never experience.
  • You believe customers are more than a number. You’ll participate in customer interviews, collaborate with success and product teams, and use metrics to ensure your work translates into real outcomes.
  • You're curious and self-driven. You challenge yourself outside of class through hackathons, side projects, and independent learning.
  • You're drawn to hard problems and own them end to end. You research complexity, find simple solutions, and see them through to completion.
  • You're AI-forward. You use AI to accelerate debugging, draft code, or explore unfamiliar problem spaces.
  • You're a collaborator. You work well independently and across cross-functional teams.

Minimum requirements:

  • Currently a junior-year student on track to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or Data Science between Spring/Summer/Fall 2028 or Winter 2029.
  • This internship is hybrid: 3 days per week in the San Francisco, CA office. Relocation assistance is available.
  • This internship is a full-time, paid experience. Interns are expected not to be enrolled in school full-time while working at Samsara.

In your application:

  1. Include your resume.
  2. Answer all application questions.
  3. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with the cohort expected to be finalized by late November or early December. Applications officially close on November 26th at 11:59pm ET. Applicants should not email to inquire about application status.
