About the role
Design Build Structures is looking for an organized, steady Operations Coordinator to manage workflow, project coordination, and schedules for both incoming and current structural steel projects — from contract award through delivery.
Once a project is awarded, you'll be the main point of contact for the general contractor and every outside party on the job. Inside our walls, you'll work hand-in-hand with our shop manager, detailers, and other departments to keep schedules, drawings, materials, and details moving.
This is a newly created position focused on owning the workflow, project management, and scheduling that keep projects moving. It’s a great opportunity to step into an operational role with a locally owned, growing company. The primary focus of this role will be to own the workflow, project management, and scheduling that keep projects moving. It's a real opportunity to step into an operational role with a locally owned, growing company.
Why This Opportunity
- A newly created role you'll help shape with opportunity for growth
- Ownership of every awarded project as the go-to contact for customers and contractors
- We'll train you on how DBS works — you bring the project and organizational know-how
- Room to grow into broader operational leadership as the company continues to expand
What You'll Do
Own Project Communication
- Serve as the main point of contact for general contractors, customers, engineers, architects, and vendors on every awarded project.
- Proactively keep everyone updated on schedules, drawing status, material deliveries, and changes.
- Stay calm and professional under pressure — manage contractor pushback and expectations while protecting schedule, quality, and our team.
- Collaborate hand-in-hand with detailing, fabrication, purchasing, installation, and leadership — this role succeeds by connecting people, not working in a silo.
Coordinate the Shop & Detailing
- Work directly with the shop manager to plan and schedule shop work around project deadlines.
- Set priorities with the detailing team and follow up on drawing progress for each project.
- Read and review blueprints, construction drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications to make sure work is in compliance with project requirements
- Coordinate material requirements with purchasing to keep projects flowing.
Manage the Details
- Manage workflow and schedules for both incoming and current projects — deadlines, documentation, and open items.
- Review contracts, drawings, and project documents to ensure successful execution.
- Spot risks early and proactively resolve issues affecting schedule, quality, or budget.
- Find ways to improve communication and workflow between departments.
What You Bring
Required
- Experience coordinating or managing multiple projects, schedules, and deadlines — in construction, steel fabrication, manufacturing, or a related field.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications required.
- Strong organizational systems — you keep details moving without needing to be micromanaged.
- Clear, professional communication with contractors, customers, and internal teams.
- Composure under pressure and the confidence to handle pushback from contractors.
- A collaborative, team-first approach to working across departments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred (not required)
- 3+ years of project management or project coordination experience in structural steel fabrication, miscellaneous metals, or commercial construction.
- Understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and project sequencing.
- Working knowledge of AISC standards and familiarity with AWS welding standards.
- Experience with Tekla EPM, FabSuite, Microsoft Project, or similar project/ERP software.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
Benefits
- Health benefits beginning after 30 days
- Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
- Company-paid Life Insurance & Short-Term Disability
- 401(k) with an excellent employer match
