About the role
The title says Account Executive. The job, as one of our AEs puts it, is closer to a mini-GM: you own a book of business, set your own commercials, and lead a cross-functional team to get deals closed and customers live.
The opportunity:
- Huge untapped revenue potential: Heron is growing quickly and sales is still catching up to the potential of our product. We serve over 190 customers but that is still a tiny share of the market. You'll take real territory from day one and share in our growth via uncapped commission and equity.
- Run your own book like a mini-GM: you'll own a book of accounts. We have playbooks for what works, but pricing and deal structure are yours to negotiate. Our deals move fast - you are typically selling to C-level.
- The seat with the upside: sales is usually the highest-paid job at any company. Here, the upside is yours.
- A team of outliers, not a sales mill: sellers come from strategy consulting, deployment, Product, and other non-traditional sales roles.
- Personal growth opportunities: this role could develop into closing very large and complex deals, sales leadership, or owning go-to-market for a newer market.
- An environment where you can do your best work: outcome-focused, low-bureaucracy work environment with an emphasis on impact.
Note: this is a sales role, so if you're applying, don't just send us your CV. Get creative and sell us on you!
What you'll do:
- Full sales cycle: handle the full sales cycle, including prospecting for and qualifying leads, and moving leads through to close using outbound and account-based techniques.
- Direct a cross-functional deal team: direct product, engineering and deployment around customers, build relationships, and provide input into what the company builds next.
- Be present with our customers: work from the New York office, travel regularly across the US to conferences, industry events and customer sites, and spend time in person with customers.
What we're looking for:
We care more about slope than resume keywords. Our ideal hire will have:
- A track record of excellence in a competitive, client-facing field: this might be 3+ years of B2B sales with strong quota attainment, top performance in consulting, a post-sales or deployment role at a technical company, or experience founding a company.
- Evidence you can sell: demonstrate quota attainment or persuasion through clients won, money raised, a side business, or the application itself.
- Product and people minded: comfortable selling a technical product using APIs and AI/LLMs, and credible with both a head of underwriting and a CTO.
- Entrepreneurial spirit: an ownership mindset, results-driven approach, and ability to move quickly.
We value people who want to make an impact. The ideal candidate will be scrappy and creative, persistent, metrics-driven, and excited to work in a fast-paced, high-growth, kind, team-based environment.
What you can expect as a Heron:
- Competitive compensation, including equity and uncapped commission.
- Full-time, in-person work in the NYC office with frequent customer travel and annual company offsites.
- Choice of top-of-the-line office equipment.
- Health, dental and vision benefits, partial dependent coverage, 401K, uncapped PTO, and parental leave.
- Free on-demand access to therapy via Spill.
- Weekly company lunches and breakfasts.
- A welcoming workplace with zero tolerance for discrimination.
About the interview:
- One or two initial get-to-know-you conversations.
- Take-home challenge.
- Team interviews lasting 2-3 hours in person, including skills-based and behavioral interviews.
