About the role

Halo is a technology company building the future of haircare for all textures through exceptional engineering and human-centered design. We create category-defining products built for the complexities others overlook. We're building HaloBraid, the world’s first braid assist device. It helps stylists finish braids 5 times faster, flawlessly and gently. This is one of the hardest unsolved problems in robotics, applied to a $270B salon services industry, and integrating computer vision, compliant fiber manipulation, and novel mechanisms.

Billions of hours are spent braiding hair each year. HaloBraid gives that time back. We’re moving from R&D into deployment with salons, and backed by leading investors Seven Seven Six, AlleyCorp, and Bling Capital.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a startup from the earliest stages.

You will:

  • Design, test, and iterate sub-assemblies from CAD to production-ready parts.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, industrial design, electrical, and manufacturing engineers, users, and cross-functional teams.
  • Push for elegant and effective solutions, challenge status quo, and drive design forward.

You have

  • Experience with CAD and mechanical design of consumer products
  • Experience with different stages of the concept to production cycle (e.g. rapid prototyping, DFM, or contract manufacturing)
  • Experience creating or bringing novel technology to market

Desired Skills & Experience (optional but the more, the better)

  • Experience with robotics, mechanisms, mechatronics, and moving components.
  • Experience with consumer electronics, especially hair styling tools.
  • Experience with soft materials, or fibers.
  • DFM/DFA principles and mass manufacturing methods
  • Design optimization integrating CFD simulation results
  • Experience working with industrial design to incorporate user needs, ergonomics, and aesthetics

Working Style

  • User centric, you want to build stuff people use and love
  • Low ego, adaptable, and collaborative spirit
  • Excited to learn through fast-paced iteration and user feedback
  • Passionate, driven by innovation
  • Excellent communication, an ability to concisely convey and discuss complex ideas

Onsite Work

This is an onsite position at our office/lab in Cambridge, MA. You must have authorization to work in the US.
