Senior Software Engineer

Role overview:

GovWell is hiring Senior Software Engineers to help build its platform at real scale, with permitting and licensing processes running across multiple states. You'll work across the stack, building a deeply configurable system that lets one platform serve thousands of municipalities with different rules. This role reports directly to the CTO and Co-Founder.

The role has a hybrid work culture combining regular in-person collaboration at the New York City office, 3+ days per week, with flexibility to work remotely.

What you'll do:

• Build, test, and ship full-stack features across GovWell's platform, from resident-facing interfaces to scalable backend services.
• Build the configuration layer that lets one system flex correctly across thousands of municipal setups instead of hardcoding logic per customer.
• Take ownership of product areas end-to-end, making them reliable, maintainable, and performant.
• Use customer feedback and production data to decide what to fix next, working directly with municipal staff and residents.
• Contribute to technical design discussions and code reviews that shape how the engineering team builds.

Who you are:

• 3-5+ years of full-stack development experience building applications for enterprises and/or consumers. Experience in high-growth startup environments is strongly preferred.
• Excited to work with the latest AI models in the product and in your development workflow.
• Experience owning a large product area end-to-end and accountability for specific shipped work.
• Strong product instincts and the ability to understand customer problems beyond ticket descriptions.
• Interested in technical variety, including GIS edge cases and fee-schedule logic.

Compensation within the posted salary band will be commensurate with experience. All offers will include:
