About the role
About The Role:
We are looking for an Affordable Housing Compliance Expert to ensure the accuracy of resident files across the affordable housing programs our platform supports. You will provide in-house authority on affordable housing compliance and policy — reviewing real tenant files, pressure-testing our automated compliance outputs, and surfacing complex, real-world cases that should inform how our product evolves.
This is a hands-on review and auditing role. You will work closely with customers and internal product and engineering teams to collect findings and improve how the system handles affordable housing compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Audit resident files across LIHTC (Section 42), HUD Section 8 (HCV, PBV, and PBRA), USDA Rural Development, and related programs.
- Apply expert judgment to complex and ambiguous files, including income and asset calculations, imputed income, deductions, and non-standard scenarios.
- Validate automated compliance outputs against program requirements.
- Identify, document, and escalate cases requiring manual review.
- Feed findings, patterns, and edge cases back to product and engineering.
- Build internal reference guides and document compliance decisions.
- Develop representative test cases and support UAT.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of hands-on affordable housing compliance file review or auditing experience.
- Deep practical knowledge of LIHTC, HUD Section 8, and ideally USDA Rural Development programs.
- Background as a housing finance agency auditor, operator-side compliance professional, or third-party compliance reviewer.
- Relevant certifications such as COS, SHCM, TCS, BOS, HCCP, or NCP.
- Strong written communication and ability to explain compliance reasoning to non-experts.
- Ability to work independently through ambiguous, complex cases at high volume.
- Experience in a software or SaaS environment, or translating program rules into software logic.
- Experience with TRACS/MAT submissions, MORs, or state agency monitoring reviews.
- Familiarity with AI or automation in compliance workflows.
Work Arrangement:
Remote candidates are considered, with preference for candidates based in NYC. Candidates within commuting distance of NYC will work from the office 4–5 days per week.
