About the role:

As part of the Tax team, you will play a vital role as a trusted tax accountant to our customers and our Member Relations team. You will have the ability to manage a portfolio of customers and contribute significantly to the organization. Your impact will be felt from the brand to the bottom line. Beyond just the business, you will be a valuable liaison between tax management and junior staff on the Collective team.

What you'll do:

  • Understand our clients’ financial background, financial goals, and help our team identify optimization opportunities.
  • Review, deliver, sign, and file federal and state tax returns including Form 1040 & 1120-S.
  • Consistently deliver high-quality results that align with both project requirements and organizational objectives while upholding Federal and State compliance requirements.
  • Support our team of tax professionals assisting with their day-to-day tasks ensuring their continuous growth.
  • Mentor, train and provide feedback to junior tax staff on the team.
  • Balance immediate project needs with the broader, long-term goals of the organization, ensuring tactical actions support strategic direction.
  • Effectively communicate updates or answers to tax questions across the organization, facilitating understanding and engagement across diverse audiences.
  • Research and analyze tax laws, regulations, and policies to produce comprehensive and accurate technical memos. Present findings and recommendations in a professional manner to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in tax laws and their impact on the organization’s compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with leadership and other departments to ensure alignment on tax-related matters and to address complex issues.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on tax-related matters and return completions such as 1120-S and 1040 with schedules C, E and SE; these are a bonus.
  • Prepare periodic reports on tax compliance status, potential risks, and opportunities for senior management.

What you'll bring:

  • Active CPA, EA, or JD in state of residency.
  • 3-5 years of experience preparing, signing, and filing returns: Form 1040 and 1120-S; experience with additional complexities such as Form 1065 and Schedules C/E/SE is a plus.
  • Strong technical proficiency using a variety of cloud-based applications, tax research, and preparation tools, including CCH, GoSystems, SurePrep, Google Suite, and Slack.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain tax technical matters and build trust with internal teammates and members.
  • Tech-savvy and very familiar with, or capable of quickly learning and teaching, tools.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional workstreams.
  • Exposure to multi-state tax principles such as nexus, apportionment, and state allocations is a strong plus.
