About the role
About the Role
We’re looking for a psychiatric nurse practitioner to provide direct psychiatric care to adult patients in Virginia. You will carry your own small panel — conducting initial psychiatric evaluations, managing medication over time, and following your patients as their treatment progresses.
This is a part-time, flexible contract role (roughly 8–10 hours per week of scheduled clinical time) built for a clinician who wants meaningful work alongside an existing practice or schedule. All care is delivered via telehealth to adults age 18 and over.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations via telehealth for adult patients, including diagnostic assessment and treatment planning
- Provide ongoing medication management and follow-up care to your own panel of patients
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, with attention to oncologic treatment interactions, symptom burden, and goals of care where patients are in active cancer treatment or survivorship
- Assess and manage clinical risk, including safety planning and escalation when a patient’s needs change
- Identify patients who need a higher level of care and facilitate appropriate referrals
- Coordinate with patients’ oncologists and primary care providers where clinically relevant
- Maintain timely, HIPAA-compliant documentation in our clinical systems
Required Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted Virginia license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the Psychiatric–Mental Health category (PMHNP-BC), issued by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine, with prescriptive authority
- Autonomous practice designation on your Virginia APRN license — the equivalent of at least three years (4,500 hours) of full-time clinical experience, attested and approved by the Boards
- Active DEA registration in good standing
- Registration with the Virginia Prescription Monitoring Program and compliance with Virginia’s mandatory PMP query requirements
- Board certification through ANCC (PMHNP-BC)
- Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited psychiatric mental health NP program
- Minimum three years of independent psychiatric prescribing experience with adult populations
- Willingness to go through credentialing and payer enrollment with Medicare, Virginia Medicaid, and our contracted commercial plans
- Comfort practicing entirely via telehealth and carrying your own panel
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensure in additional states
- Experience in psycho-oncology, palliative care, or with medically complex patients
- Familiarity with the Collaborative Care Model (CoCM)
- Experience in a startup or rapidly scaling clinical environment
- Spanish fluency
