About the role

About Us

At Antares, our long-term mission is to make clean energy abundant from Earth to the Asteroid Belt. We are building mass-producible, inherently safe, deployable microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications.

About the team

We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to lead assembly of a full-scale reactor on-site at Antares Prime. This person will work with design, quality, supply chain, and other teams to provide DFM, define build processes, procure capital equipment and tooling, execute development builds, and launch production of the R1 nuclear reactor.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Own manufacturing process development for major reactor assemblies and subsystems from engineering release through build, inspection, test, and final integration.
  • Develop assembly and manufacturing process flows and shop floor layouts.
  • Partner with engineering, quality, and test teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, inspectable, and testable.
  • Develop tooling, fixtures, handling equipment, and specialized manufacturing equipment.
  • Establish processes for first-of-a-kind hardware and scalable production.
  • Troubleshoot build issues with manufacturing technicians and operators.
  • Maintain manufacturing bills of material, process plans, and configuration-controlled documentation.
  • Participate in readiness, design, production, and hardware build reviews.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level manufacturing engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Aerospace, Nuclear, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience developing and implementing manufacturing processes for complex hardware.
  • Experience taking hardware from design through prototype, qualification, and production.
  • Experience creating work instructions, process specifications, assembly procedures, inspection plans, and test procedures.
  • Understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, engineering drawings, and configuration management.
  • Experience working with technicians, machinists, fabricators, inspectors, and production personnel.
  • Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing problems and drive root cause, corrective action, and process improvement.
  • Understanding of DFM/DFA principles.
  • Experience with manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and specialized equipment.
  • Strong technical communication, documentation, cross-functional collaboration, ownership, and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience developing and implementing manufacturing processes for complex hardware.
  • Experience with aerospace or nuclear reactor components, pressure vessels, fuel systems, thermal systems, or reactor instrumentation and controls.
  • Experience with nuclear quality assurance or comparable quality and regulatory frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Section III or NQA-1.
  • Experience with process qualification, validation, PFMEA, process capability studies, statistical process control, value-stream mapping, and capacity analysis.
  • Experience transitioning prototype hardware into repeatable production.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems, ERP/MRP, PLM, and digital work-instruction platforms.
  • Experience with configuration control, traceability, material control, and process documentation.

Culture

At Antares, cultural values include thinking in systems, obsessing over the end user, being unconstrained by convention, going where the work is, and operating in the grey.
