About the role
ABOUT THE TEAM:
The Launched Effects team at Anduril is responsible for scaling the manufacturing and delivery of the ALTIUS family of systems, including the ALTIUS-600 and ALTIUS-700. As the premier Air-Launched Effects (ALE) platform for the U.S. military and its allies, ALTIUS is redefining modern warfare. These tube-launched, autonomous aerial systems must be built to survive extreme deployment environments, requiring precision manufacturing of advanced composites, complex avionics, and modular payload integrations for ISR, Electronic Warfare, and kinetic strike capabilities.
As part of the Launched Effects manufacturing team, you will bridge the gap between cutting-edge R&D and high-rate production. We are a fast-moving, mission-driven group of manufacturing engineers, quality specialists, and production operations experts who continuously optimize assembly lines, implement automated testing, design for manufacturing, and build resilient supply chains to deploy reliable systems.
ABOUT THE JOB:
As a Senior Supply Quality Engineer, you will work inside and outside the organization to define, develop, and execute processes that deliver high quality and reliable precision machined parts used in missile and high-speed aircraft programs. This role focuses on collaborating with design teams and suppliers to meet quality requirements the first time. The role requires knowledge of manufacturing, supply management, supplier development, subsystem performance criteria, metrology, and continuous improvement.
This position is permanently based in Ashville, OH, and requires candidates to temporarily relocate for a comprehensive 3-month training program: 1 month in Santa Ana, CA, followed by approximately 2 months in Atlanta, GA. Anduril will provide corporate housing, transportation, and travel accommodations during this training period.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Partner with design teams to support design development, provide design for manufacturability feedback, and help generate product data for precision mechanical parts.
- Use knowledge of machining, molding, additive manufacturing, fabrication, special processes, and inspection and measurement to support design and ideation.
- Provide leadership to manage technical risks, proof of concepts, prototyping, and scaling designs for volume production.
- Drive supplier quality development processes through product development, design reviews, supplier process development, testing, and qualification.
- Partner with engineering, sourcing, category management, and program management teams to deliver predictable supply and manage supplier technical performance exceptions.
- Drive supplier quality readiness by analyzing critical characteristics, developing measurement systems, and conducting supplier qualification activities including PPAP, FAIR, audits, and inspection development.
- Partner with sourcing teams to drive supplier performance for cost, quality, delivery, and strategic goals.
- Eliminate supplier risk to improve quality and reliability across the product lifecycle through audits, readiness reviews, training, and documentation.
- Support Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) and Material Review Board (MRB) activities, while owning containments derived from purchased goods.
- Review supplier effectiveness, share lessons learned, and drive supplier corrective action and response (SCAR) processes.
- Audit supplier Quality Management Systems and improve documentation and activities to ensure compliance with customer flow-down requirements.
- Prepare, support, and lead supplier onsite audits and reviews for contract deliverables, quality management, and compliance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a similar technical field.
- Experience producing precision mechanical parts for aerospace or defense.
- Experience scaling supplier capabilities and quality from prototype and proof-of-concept parts through low-rate and high-rate production.
- Experience performing source inspection at mechanical manufacturing, aerospace, and defense suppliers is a plus.
- Experience flowing down Source Control requirements to suppliers.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001-based Quality Management System requirements.
- AS9100 Lead or Internal Auditor Certification or equivalent is a plus.
- Experience performing First Article Inspection to the AS9102 industry standard and ensuring suppliers have capable control plans and inspection processes.
- Experience driving supplier performance and evaluation, including Statement of Work, quality clauses, intellectual property, and government regulations such as ITAR.
- Working knowledge of FMEA, APQP, PPAP elements such as MSA, quality improvement techniques, and GD&T.
- Strong ownership mindset with demonstrated capability to drive projects from start to completion.
- Analytical skills and experience with data mining, data quality, metrics generation, issue management systems, and statistical analysis tools such as MATLAB, JMP, and Minitab.
- Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. TS/SCI security clearance.
- Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time to suppliers, sourcing partners, and manufacturing locations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in a technical field.
- Experience creating material and process specifications.
- Experience managing special processes including heat treatment, polishing, anodizing, coating, and painting.
- PFMEA experience and experience developing source inspection plans and qualifying inspection process capabilities.
